Master Antenna Television (MATV)

An MATV system enable TV and FM signals to be distributed to a large number of TV receivers, as opposed to individual antennas for each TV.

 

Without an MATV system, any premises that requires multiple TVs would need to install and maintain an antenna or satellite dish per TV. This proves to be expensive and problematic. Multiple antennas are not only unsightly, they cause signal issues, negatively affecting TV reception.

 

An MATV system can carry digital TV signals through an aerial or satellite dish providing the best possible reception. This is the ideal solution for hotels, retirement villages and holiday parks with multiple users in multiple locations. Minimising loss of quality and signal problems.

 

A Typical MATV System Works By:

  • Positioning a UHF TV aerial or satellite dish appropriately to receive digital TV signals.
  • Signals received by the aerial or dish are then processed using the Head End equipment (part 1 of the MATV processing system).
  • A distribution network (part 2 of the MATV processing system) then delivers all TV signals to a socket outlet in each room/area. There can be more than one outlet per area and splitters can be used in a limited way so that more than one TV can be used on each outlet. Configuration of the distribution network will depend on the number of dwellings and/or floors at the premises.

Careful planning and engineering is required to manage the two parts to the MATV system; the Head End and the Distribution System and to subsequently provide optimal quality.
